With different types of hunting and different regions to hunt, this can be a tough decision.
These five tips will help you buy the right hunting clothes.
A duck hunter’s clothing needs to be warm and waterproof. An upland hunter’s clothing needs to be thorn-proof, but light enough to move around comfortably. A deer hunter high up in a treestand is not moving for hours, so insulation is everything.
If the cold arctic winds are howling for a late-season deer hunter, the clothing will be much heavier than that of an early-season dove hunter. Check the rating of the clothing item you’re purchasing. Does it fit the climate you’ll be hunting in the most?
A rabbit or pheasant hunter should be sporting blaze orange. A deer hunter, though, needs to hide from the sharp eyes of approaching bucks, so any kind of camouflage or color patterns to break up that hunter’s outline will make a big difference. Do your research on what clothing works best for your targeted game animal.
A sheep hunter on an Alaskan mountain is going to need to pack lightly. A deer hunter in the lower 48 states may be 100 yards or less from the truck or camp. Ultra-light clothing may be expensive but is well worth it when you’re hiking through backcountry.
Now, this is the hardest part of the equation. You can buy cheap gear, but it should really just be temporary until you can buy something better. Check stores like Salvation Army to pick up well-made vintage hunting clothing with light wear. Then, work your way up to buying quality gear that’ll last you years. It might not happen overnight, but over time, you can outfit yourself.

Winter may still be young, but it has already been a rough one for many parts of the country, with snow and icy temperatures leaving many areas in a deep freeze.
Hibernating animals surely wouldn’t be out and about in these conditions, right? Check out this footage of a snapping turtle under ice that proves otherwise. U.S. Fish and Wildlife took this video in the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge in Kansas.

We think it’s safe to say this snapping turtle jumped the gun a bit. He’s moving about as fast as me in the mornings in recent weeks! While being trapped under ice would be a terrifying experience for just about any animal, U.S. Fish and Wildlife followed up the video with a tweet asking the public not to break the ice if they come across a similar scenario.

We’re sure the ice will melt by then anyway, right? It is already turning into a long winter and we’re ready for the spring thaw!

BLACKHAWK! has produced reliable gear since its birth back in 1993. However, the products seem to keep getting better and better as time goes on, and they really hit it out of the park this time.
The Omnivore is a one-size-fits-all kind of holster, accommodating more than 150 different handguns with accessory rails. It features an adjustable thumb-activated retention mechanism, which gives the shooter instant access to his or her weapon.
The holster’s free-floating design keeps it from wearing on the gun’s finish. It also comes in four different color options, which are black, blaze orange/black, coyote tan/black and urban gray/black.
The Omnivore is currently priced around $60, which is a pretty good price, especially if you have more than one gun you can use it for.

For most of us, coyotes aren’t anything new. As a matter of fact, they’re just a part of everyday life like deer, squirrels or even raccoons. However, for the good people of New York City, dealing with a coyote is just a little out of the ordinary. In a wild story coming out of New York, the U.S. Department of Agriculture closed an entire parking lot of the LaGuardia airport to look for one single coyote.
Just last year, a family of coyotes were caught and euthanized from the general airport area. All of the coyotes were found, except one. This is the Laguardia coyote causing all the problems.
“They shut the whole parking lot down so they could catch it. All of our buses were lined up here, all people trying to get to work all lined up around the block in the cold,” Vashisht Maharaj, a parking lot supervisor forced to wait while his parking lot was closed, said in an interview.
Most people who work there feel there is no need to remove the Laguardia coyote. As they say, he doesn’t bother anyone.
As this time, the coyote is still on the loose.

It is easy to get frustrated and feel like packing it in on the last day of a hunt. But Eric Chesser of the Hushin crew shows why you should never give up.
It’s the last day of a solo backcountry mule deer hunt, and he finally catches up with a great buck. This is what hunting is all about.
How many of you had your heart skip a beat on that first shot going high? We know we certainly did. He lucked out when that buck didn’t move. It’s likely he didn’t even realize he was being shot at, but still, Chesser was able to make a couple great shots to bring this buck home.
This hunt just goes to show hunting isn’t always easy. He really had to work for it here, but persistence paid off big time.
We have to give Chesser kudos for donating the meat from this buck to charity, too. Congrats on a great buck, and thanks for sharing this exciting hunt with the rest of the world!
