Bond Arms’ Grizzly, A Fierce Firearm with a Friendly Price

Armed with powerful claws and jaws, grizzlies are fearsome adversaries in the wild. Their Latin name, Ursus arctos horribilis, suits this powerful apex predator. Like its namesake, the Grizzly pistol is formidable, a good reason to bear arms. This single-action double-barrel pistol chambers the most powerful cartridges in Bond Arm’s Rough Series. The Grizzly inherits the premium features found on all Bond Arms, including stainless-steel barrels and frame, cross-bolt safety, retracting firing pins, spring-loaded cam-lock lever and rebounding hammer. Many expect to pay top dollar for these premium features, but Bond Arms found a way to keep its Rough Series production costs low, passing the savings on to its customers.
The Grizzly’s 3-inch barrels, with blade front sight and fixed rear sight, is chambered in .45 long colt and 2½-inch .410 bore shotshells—two potent handgun cartridges for personal defense. The Grizzly frame is compatible with all standard Bond Arms’ barrels, adding dozens of custom cartridge and barrel length combinations.
The Grizzly, Rowdy and Roughneck models form the Bond Arms’ Rough Series, a family of quality yet value-priced pistols. How do they get the prices down so low on these firearms? Each handgun uses the same stainless-steel materials and quality control standards seen in all their guns, reducing the time spent polishing and hand-finishing lowers the price. Rough Series pistols undergo a minimal cleanup and deburring, ensuring there are no sharp edges. A bead-blasted finish replaces the polished finish found on the higher-priced models. Parting lines in the metal frame and trigger guard or swirly tool marks on the barrel may be visible. Sanding and polishing the frame removes tiny casting imperfections and rough areas, but with a rough finish, these unique marks are visible, giving each pistol its own unique “character.”
Vibrant rosewood grips engraved with grizzly bear artwork dress up this distinctive derringer, and a Bond Arms logo and a checkered panel add texture to the extended grip. The pistol includes a matching leather holster embossed with a grizzly bear.
Grizzly Features:
- Stainless steel double-barrel and frame
- Compatible with all standard Bond Arms barrels
- Patented rebounding hammer
- Retracting firing pins
- Cross-bolt safety
- Spring-loaded, cammed locking lever

- MSRP $ 377

DU celebrates success with inaugural DUX mega event

Impressive numbers of hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts attended the inaugural Ducks Unlimited Expo (DUX) on the Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend. The event, presented by Purina Pro Plan, showcased all things outdoors over the course of three days.
“Volunteers are the backbone of Ducks Unlimited. So, it is absolutely no surprise that volunteers lead the charge for this event, making the DUX Expo a huge success,” said DU Chairman Rogers Hoyt Jr.
Event goers came from far and wide to experience shooting, fishing and off-road vehicles firsthand during the three-day expo. The Shooting Village saw a steady crowd all weekend trying out the latest shotguns and rifles, while Fishing Village participants caught and released fish, tried out kayaks, practiced their fly tying and casting and even watched retriever demonstrations. With nearly 150 exhibitors and sponsors on site over the course of the event, there was something for everyone.
“Being able to come to an event where you can test out and purchase a new shotgun in the morning, test drive the latest ATVs and trucks in the afternoon and visit with hunting, fishing and outdoor vendors in between, DUX was an experience like no other,” said DU CEO Adam Putnam. “This event allowed us to showcase all things outdoors, while supporting all things conservation.”
In addition to hands-on shooting and fishing experiences, attendees tested their duck identification skills in the Conservation Village and drove new off-road vehicles on the custom-made 4×4 track.

MENDOCINO’S CAMP NAVARRO OFFERS TRANSIENT STAYS BEGINNING SUMMER 2021

Reconnect with Nature and Spend a Magical ‘Weekend in the Woods’ at this Historic and Idyllic Camp
Previously only available for private events and festivals, Camp Navarro, located in the heart of Mendocino’s famed Anderson Valley Wine Country, and nestled amongst towering trees and winding waterways, will be available to book for weekend stays for any size party – from individuals and couples to families and groups – starting in July 2021.
Camp Navarro is a historic camp that makes nature the star, and inspiring experiences and memorable moments are the result. This summer offers the perfect time to get away from the crowds and commune with nature, and Camp Navarro is the place to find that inner peace. The 200-acre property is located in the old-growth forests between award-winning wineries and the dramatic Pacific – a true “greatest hits” of California. The setting is unparalleled – under a canopy of centuries’ old redwoods, along the Navarro River, and bisected by beautiful Neefus Creek.

Onsite, guests will find miles of nature trails, an archery range, an arts and crafts barn, a BBQ and outdoor game area, swimming holes, a meditation platform, rock climbing walls, and more. Lodgers can choose from a cozy cabin, spacious Glamping teepee or an East-Coast style Adirondack cabin. Lodging includes classic camp activities, access to the entire 200-acre property, lawn games, and nightly campfires with s’mores under a carpet of twinkling stars.
“We are excited to be able to host smaller groups and individuals for ‘Weekend in the Woods’ so we can share the transcendent experience that is Camp Navarro with all,” states Dan Braun, camp Founder and CEO. “We find that guests feel free to return to their youthful, more carefree selves as soon as they set foot on the property.”
Camp Navarrois the “refined rustic” vibe that so many are trying to recreate these days – comfy cabins; hand-built, redwood-milled outdoor showers; nostalgic Boy Scout and timber-era history and gourmet cuisine that is locally sourced and often cooked over fire. Guests enjoy hiking, gazing at starry skies, sitting around campfires, participating in camp activities, and experiencing what it feels like to be a part of a joyful community.

The “Weekend in the Woods” experience is available from Thursday through Sunday nights for stays on select dates in the months of July and August with a 3-night minimum stay required. Dates available for booking are: July 22-25; July 29-August 1; and August 5-8. Guests are required to purchase the Meal Plan when booking, which includes 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners. Award-winning local beer and wine is also available for purchase. Harkening back to a traditional camp experience (and also to adhere to COVID safety protocols), in 2021 campers must bring their own bedding, though bedding rentals are available onsite if guests forget anything. With a staff that caters to guests’ needs and meticulous accommodations on offer, guests can be as rustic as they choose while communing with nature in its purest form.
As always, Camp Navarro is also available year-round for private bookings and events, such as corporate retreats, weddings, festivals, musical camps, and other creative events.
Visit www.campnavarro.com to learn more about available dates for “Weekend in the Woods” and for further details about this bucolic experience that is the antidote to the hustle and bustle of normal life.

Most Important Factors to Consider When Buying Your First Gun

There is a sudden surge in the number of concealed-carry permit holders. Naturally, these permit holders will eventually purchase their own firearms., meaning that there will be an incidental surge in the number of first-time buyers. Buying a gun can be an intimidating prospect, especially for those who have only begun to learn how to use firearms. If you’re among those who plan to buy their first gun, here are some pointers to keep in mind:
Do Your Research
As with any other first-time purchase, it’s important to arm yourself with reliable information before you commit to a purchase. The internet is a rich source of information, but it also contains numerous falsehoods, so it’s important to select your sources carefully. Some reliable sources are Shooting Illustrated and American Rifleman. Books and eBooks are also reliable sources of information. The first few things to know are what type of gun is best for you and what caliber.
Choose Among Basic Guns First
Gun types feel different in the hand. Some people prefer the feel of a semiautomatic and the ease of concealment while other people prefer the simplicity of a revolver and its ease of maintenance. Choosing your gun type of choice is much easier when you have access to a gun range where you can shoot the gun safely. One of the best places to shop for guns are NRA annual meetings, where all major gun manufacturers have experts who can answer questions without any bias to their own products.
Selecting Your Caliber
Caliber is pretty much a matter of personal preference. Purists will often champion their own calibers (whether they be .45ACP, .38mm, 9mm, etc) but the truth is that it depends on how comfortable you are with a firearm. Most calibers such as the .380mm, .40 S&W, .45ACP, and the .38 Special are all tried and tested calibers for personal defense. You can ask a seasoned shooter for advice, but finding a gun you’re comfortable shooting with is far more important than the caliber you’re going to feed it.
Choose the Right Store
Not all stores will give you the right recommendations for a first gun. When buying guns, you’re going to be far better off buying from small businesses instead of a large chain. The premise behind this is that many large chains hire staff who are inexperienced with firearms, making them unreliable when it comes to recommendations. Small businesses are much more reliable not just because it’s their livelihood, but also because firearms are also their passion. Once you are accustomed to buying guns, you may even consider checking the internet for guns for sale.
Practice
Much like buying a car, it’s important to test the model at the range. Not only will this help you familiarize yourself with the gun, but it will also reveal what type of gun you really want. You don’t have to purchase a gun soon after securing a CCW permit. Take your time, try out as many guns as you can until you find one that suits you best.
Remember that buying a gun isn’t like most purchases. It’s an investment in security, so take your time.

House Passes Highway Bill with Strong Investments in Habitat and Access

Senate must now act to establish a first-of-its-kind federal grant program for wildlife crossings and advance other important conservation priorities
(Washington, D.C.) — In a 221-201 floor vote today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the INVEST in America Act, a five-year highway bill with much-needed funding for fish and wildlife habitat connectivity, climate resilience, and road and trail maintenance across public lands.
The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership is particularly encouraged to see the advancement of a new $ 100-million-per-year grant program that would help states construct more wildlife-friendly road crossing structures, including over- and underpasses, that benefit migrating big game and many other species. An amendment was also successfully passed to establish a new grant program to fund and support culvert restoration projects, which will help restore essential anadromous fish passages across the nation.
“It’s the right time to invest in America’s transportation infrastructure and jobs, and it’s highly appropriate that we look out for fish and wildlife habitat as we make largescale improvements,” says Whit Fosburgh, president and CEO of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership. “This may be our best chance to knit together fragmented migration corridors and fish habitat, especially now that we know more about the way animals use seasonal habitats and exactly how development affects their movement patterns. The science and technology have advanced, but we can’t create solutions without the dedicated funding provided in this bill, which would create the first national wildlife crossings initiative of its kind and help prioritize culvert restoration across the country.”
The bill also includes an amendment that authorizes the Legacy Roads and Trails Remediation Program through 2030 and requires the U.S. Forest Service to develop a national strategy for using the program—which would have a direct impact on public land access and hunting and fishing opportunities on Forest Service lands. The Forest Service also gets a share of the $ 555 million per year included in INVEST for the Federal Land Transportation Program, but the TRCP and partners will continue to push for more balance here.
Importantly, INVEST would also:
- Reauthorize the Sport Fish Restoration Program, the well-known conservation fund that draws from angler license and gear purchases.
- Create a Community Resilience and Restoration Fund and competitive grant program at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, authorized at $ 100 million per year.
- Increase funding for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program to $ 40 billion over five years. Fifteen percent of these funds would be set aside to encourage states to invest in natural systems and nature-based approaches to addressing local water quality challenges.
The Senate surface transportation bill includes the culvert provisions but only $ 350 million over five years for wildlife crossings. It also includes a climate resilience program that is not in the House bill. The two versions will need to be reconciled before the president can sign off and advance the much-needed conservation provisions mentioned above.
Founded in 2002, the TRCP is the largest coalition of conservation organizations in the country, uniting and amplifying the voices of sportsmen and women by convening hunting and fishing groups, conservation organizations, and outdoor businesses to a common purpose.
