If you are like us, the only meat we really look forward to eating this time of year is wild game. Thankfully, we live a lifestyle that allows for that type of thing.
However, we often find ourselves getting a little creative when it come to cooking and finding new venison recipes to try. This recipe will warm up any cold winter day, because that’s what we set out for it to do.
There is just something about fresh cranberries and apple mixing with venison that creates a truly unique flavor. What’s more? Any time you have a slow cooker venison roast set to low simmering all day, your house is going to smell amazing when you get home. Basically, this one is going to smell like a Christmas candle, so be prepared.
Crock pots are always a great way to cook any roast recipe. This process really tenderizes the meat, especially when set on the low setting for an extended period of time.
As you might find, most venison roast recipes tend to use a can of cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or even dry onion soup mix. Oh, and there’s normally some Italian salad dressing required somewhere, too. However, this recipe calls for the bare minimum.

Cranberry and Apple Crock Pot Venison Roast
- 1 boneless venison roast
- 1/2 to 1 large onion
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup apple juice
- A handful of cinnamon sticks
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- Several diced up apples
Yep. Those are the only ingredients needed to make this super easy crock pot recipe. Actually, this is one of the super easy recipes that you might come back to again and again, just with some different variations.
However, for this recipe, those amounts worked for the size of my roast. If yours is smaller or larger, you may need to scale accordingly.
To get this crock pot venison roast recipe started, simply combine all the ingredients into a slow cooker and set to low. You don’t want the venison roast to be completely submerged, but at least halfway should work.
Let everything cook for about six to eight hours. This is really one of those fix it and forget recipes you hear about all the time that turn out so well nobody believes it.
When it’s done, use a strainer and remove about half of the cinnamon sticks, chopped onions, cranberries, and apples. Discard the cinnamon sticks before pouring the rest into a blender. Add about a cup of the beef broth and mix until smooth.
Next, pour all this back into the crock pot and allow it to continue to cook for another 30 minutes or so. This is how you turn your simple venison roast into Sunday comfort food in a hurry.
If you want to kick the beef broth mixture up a little, add in some butter. After this, serve right away. You won’t believe how everything comes together.
